Central Coast Trees Affected by Myrtle Rust

A fungal disease called Myrtle Rust is affecting many areas on the Central Coast. See earlier post 9th June 2010.

The disease affects many native species from bottlebrush, melaluca, through to eucalyptus species.

Leaves get a purple discoloration with yellow spores. Leaves also become distorted or deformed, see image below.

An outbreak has occured in the Coles carpark in Wyoming, Gosford Council or the car park owners don’t seem to want to know about it.

If you suspect Myrtle rust please contact an Arborist to have the disease correctly identified then report it to the NSW DPI by sending photos to biosecurity@industry.nsw.gov.au
